Glass Cutting and Prep Work for New Piece

GlassDesignArt.com Information

Each piece presented on the GlassDesignArt.com website is handmade in the U.S. The glass work goes through several stages of design and creation, including one or more kiln firings at temperatures up to 1465 degrees Fahrenheit ( 800 degrees Celsius).

Each firing lasts several hours -- the actual time is adjusted to account for such variables as glass dimensions, number of layers, inclusions, coefficient of expansion, etc.

Controlled and even cooling is also an important part of glass art creation. Each piece has to be cooled properly to allow the glass to anneal. This careful process helps relieve the internal stresses within the glass and prevent the glass from cracking or shattering. The finished and cooled piece is then cleaned and engraved with the artist's signature and date.
